The Geology Section is in the Earth Science Department at the National Museums of Kenya. Geology is the study of the materials that compose the Earth’s crust. The staffs in the section analyze rocks, minerals, formations and other structures in order to understand how the earth has changed and evolved over time. The rocks, minerals and fossils help us understand the Geological history of Earth from its origin around 4.6 billion years ago, and the processes involved in forming and shaping the earth’s crust.
The Geology Sections main objective is to facilitate geological research to both local and international researchers. The initial procedures in carrying out geological research are to study the geological sites that contain rocks, mineral and fossils in order to understand the geological history.
