The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) is a state corporation established by an Act of Parliament, the National Museums and Heritage Act, 2006 No. 6 of 2006. NMK is a multi-disciplinary institution whose role is to collect, preserve, study, document and present Kenya’s past and present cultural and natural heritage. This is for the purposes of enhancing knowledge, appreciation, respect and sustainable utilization of these resources for the benefit of Kenya and the world, for now and posterity.
It is in line with the need to realize the above mandate that NMK management is seeking to recruit suitable and qualified persons to fill the following positions whose holders will be based at NMK headquarters.

Head of Planning and Strategy Department –NM 4

Duties and responsibilities
The position holder will report to the Director Administration and Human Resource and will be charged with:

  • Coordinating NMK annual performance contracting process at all stages
    including setting targets, signing of performance contracts, collection of
    data, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Coordinating development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
    NMK strategic plan
  • Coordinating planning function including annual work plans in
    accordance with the strategic plan and other guidelines issued from time
    to time
  • Coordinating NMK budgeting process and organizing mid-term review
  • Continuous review of quality management systems to ensure continuous
    improvement of NMK services
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications requirements:
For appointment to this position, an officer must;

  • Have at least a masters degree from a recognized university in Social Sciences,
    Project Management, or relevant subject
  • Have demonstrable experience of designing, monitoring and evaluation tools, surveys
    and evaluations
  • Have served at senior level management position in a reputable organization for at
    least five years
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and managerial capacity
  • Have experience in technical report writing
  • Have a strong leadership, strategic planning and management skills
  • Have shown ability and merit in job performance
  • Be computer literate

Terms of service: Three (3) years renewable contract.


 Marketing Manager NM 4

Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will report to the Director Administration and Human Resource and will be required to:

  • Set product line objectives for sales volume, market share and profit targets
  • Develop annual product line marketing plan and evaluate the product line marketing
    plan to ensure compatibility with overall corporate objectives, plans and resource
    allocation
  • Work with functional areas (i.e. exhibits, finance, research, etc.) to ensure proper
    implementation of the marketing plan
  • Ensure implementation and review of product pricing policies and establish marketing
    communications objectives and strategies
  • Compile and interpret marketplace changes in customers, prospects,
    dealer/distributors, and competitor arenas; assessing other developments which can
    signal threats or opportunities
  • Manage product line for long-term viability, growth and profitability
  • Develop business plans for all income generating facilities and departments
  • Participate in the recruitment of marketing personnel
  • Be in charge of departmental budget
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualification requirements:
The applicant must:

  • Have served in the grade of a Principal Marketing Officer or an equivalent position in
    a reputable organization for a period of minimum three (3) years
  • Be in possession of at least a Masters Degree in Business Administration or any other
    relevant masters degree
  • Be a registered member of Marketing/Public Relations Society of Kenya.

Terms of service: Three (3) years renewable contract.


Chief Procurement Officer NM 5

Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will report the Director Administration and Human Resource and will be required to:

  • Head Procurement Section
  • Advice the Director Administration and Human Resource on all procurement matters
  • Co-ordinate all procurement activities
  • Supervise, monitor performance and periodically evaluate the activities of all
    procurement personnel in the Department
  • Institute periodical management inspections every six months to assess utilization and
    control of supplies
  • Initiate and develop procurement policies for the institution in line with various
    applicable statutory laws
  • Develop the organization’s procurement plan and manual
  • Review procurement documentations for both local and overseas orders
  • Prepare advertisement and procurement notices; analyze tender documents; prepare
    purchase orders as per approved tender/quotes; and prepare and submit written reports
    on procurement issues to the Director Administration and Human Resource
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications requirements
For one to be appointed to this grade, one must:

  • Have served as Senior Procurement Officer for a period of three (3) years in a
    reputable organization
  • Be in possession of a Masters Degree (Supplies Management Option) or its equivalent
  • Be registered by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supplies Management
  • Have shown merit and ability in his/her job performance
  • Have demonstrated high administrative capabilities

Terms of service: Three (3) years renewable contract.


Resource Centre Manager NM 4

Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will report to the Director National Repository and Research and will be required to:

  • Be in charge of the efficient operation of the Library and Information Centre
  • Be responsible for the management and administration of NMK library and archival
    services, ensuring full and efficient provision of these services and facilities
  • Participate in recruitment of library staff
  • Co-ordinate the development of Resource Centre departmental budget
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications requirements
For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

  • Have served in the position of Chief Librarian or comparable position in a reputable
    organization for a period of not less than five (5) years
  • Have at least a Masters Degree in Library/Information Sciences or its equivalent from
    a recognized university
  • Be computer literate.

Terms of service: Three (3) years renewable contract.


Senior Audio Visual/Media Officer NM 6

Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will report to the Director Administration and Human Resource and will be required to:

  • Plan, organize, control and co-ordinate media activities
  • Handle correspondence relating to media issues
  • Compile appropriate data and reports
  • Maintain audio visual equipment
  • Performance management and capacity building of media personnel
  • Prepare budget for the section
  • Research and plan media use in exhibitions in all museums
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications requirements
For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

  • Have served in the position of Audio Visual/Media Officer I or a comparable position
    in a reputable organization for a period of at least three (3) years
  • Have at least a Masters Degree in Mass Communication/Electronics Engineering or its
    equivalent
  • Must have shown merit and ability in their job performance
  • Be computer literate

Terms of service: Permanent and pensionable.


Land Surveyor NM 6

Duties and responsibilities:
The position holder will report to the Director Antiquities, Sites and Monuments and will be required to:

  • Ensure efficient administration and sustainable management of the land resources at
    NMK
  • Implement land policy guidelines
  • Undertake land surveys and mapping
  • Participate in land adjudication and settlement
  • Conduct land valuation
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned from time to time

Qualifications requirements

For appointment to this position, a candidate must:

  • Have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Land Surveying or its equivalent
  • Have at least three (3) years relevant working experience in a reputable organization
  • Be a member of Institution of Surveyors of Kenya
  • Be computer literate

Terms of service: Permanent and pensionable.
